Head Start/Early Head Start Program

Providing comprehensive child and family development services in Middle Tennessee since 1970.

Welcome to the Head Start and Early Head Start Program—fun and learning in a safe, positive environment.

Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency’s Head Start program has provided quality childcare in Middle Tennessee since 1970.

Staff members have degrees, certifications or long-term experience related to child development. They also participate in ongoing training, including 80 clock hours of child-development training each year.

All MCCAA Head Start centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and all sites are licensed by the Tennessee Department of Human Services. The centers have received the state regulatory agency’s highest rating of 3-STAR. The program is also active in regional organizations and the Tennessee Head Start Association.

The Head Start program offers research-based, age-appropriate curricula and learning activities for children from six weeks through five years old. Programs emphasize developmentally appropriate play and individualized learning opportunities. Activities include music, art, storytelling and recreation.
